With the arrival of Joomla 4, we've had to make key decisions about the future of Joomlashack as a business. It's no secret that being in the Joomla business is difficult in 2023. Many, many Joomla companies have not survived nearly as long as Joomlashack. Many are not making the move to Joomla 4.
Over the course of almost 20 years, we've had to make some tough decisions. In 2023, we've had to make another one. With the arrival of Joomla 4, we discontinued support for lifetime subscribers.
Here are the specific details of the change:
- Customer support access for lifetime subscribers ended on 17 August 2023, with the end-of-life for Joomla 3.
- Lifetime subscribers will continue to have access to download extensions.
Why did we make this decision?
There are several reasons behind this decision:
- Hard reality. Joomla in 2023 is not nearly as popular as it was. There are less people using Joomla. To stay in business, Joomlashack needs the active support of its users. Without decisions like this, Joomlashack will not complete 20 years.
- Time. The previous owners of Joomlashack sold most lifetime subscriptions in 2007 and 2008. Those users have had 15 years of service from Joomlashack.
- Increased costs. Upgrading our extensions to Joomla 4 has been a brutal process and has taken more than 2 years.
