Over the next few weeks we're going to be publishing videos of some great presentations from Joomla Day Atlanta.
The event featured some really excellent Joomla and PHP presentations.
This week we showcase Michael Babker from the Joomla core team. His presentation was called "Looking at Joomla! 3.3" and he talks about what's new in the latest version of Joomla.
Micheal makes a major announcement at the 14 minute mark, so be sure not to miss that.
Overview of the Presentation
Here are 5 key takeaways from Michael's presentation:
- Raised Requirements: Joomla 3.3 will require PHP 5.3.10+
- Security: Lots of progress towards making Joomla safter. Two-Factor authentication is available and there's more secure BCrypt password hashing to keep passwords safe.
- jQuery: Thanks for a Google Summer of Code project, more and more of the MooTools scripts in Joomla are now using jQuery.
- Joomla 3.4 will be the next release: We'll blog more about this next week but this is big news. Essentially, it means to Joomla now uses the same release cycle as WordPress.
- Joomla 3.4 features: Continued Microdata Implementation, Front-End Module Editing, omposer Integration, Remove com_weblinks
